For the best WOW images, your horse should be as clean as possible. I recommend them bathed, dry, and show-ring ready! The images will be taken primarily in a bridle (with a simple snaffle bit) or nice leather halter (with leather lead preferred).
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Entire body brushed and dirt free
Completely dry
Green spots removed
Mane, forelock, and tail brushed and free of shavings
Nose, mouth, and eyes wiped clean (please bring a rag!)
Hooves clean and/or polished
Bridle & Halter clean, wiped down, and looking show ready
Bit clean and shiny
Braid or bands (stunning when possible!)

How do I prepare my horse?
I will have a bag of goodies to use if needed, however, if you have any toys, tricks, or treats that you know will get your horse’s attention please have them close by. We will use them! Last minute touch ups on your horse include fly spray, show sheen, hoof black, grease on the face, final mane and tail brush out, body wiped down with a towel.
The session will go much smoother if we have these things readily available going into the session. The key is not to show any of these to the horse until everyone is in place and ready! Be patient and trust me to see and capture that special moment through my lens.
GET THE JITTERS OUT
I HIGHLY recommend working your horse, like a lot, before your session. A really good ride or lunge will get out most of the jitters.
A HUNGRY HORSE IS A GRUMPY HORSE
If your session falls between your horse’s normal feeding time, please feed them a light meal beforehand.
HAVE A HELPFUL HAND
Have a friend (or two) available to help. This is the MOST important tip that I have! Some of the most flattering poses are best achieved with one person to hold the horse and another to get their attention (especially ears forward), to bend their neck around, or reposition their legs.
LET THE DETAILS SHINE
Please have your tack in immaculate condition and show ready. Condition/oil the leather, polish the bit, wipe it all clean and looking its best! My camera shows incredible detail, therefore, if your tack is dirty it will show in your photos. I charge extra for editing dirty tack.
COMFORTABLE & RELAXED ON LOCATION
If there are locations on the property that you would like to do photos, please spend some time relaxing with your horse there well before your session date. We don’t want to bring them to a new or scary area for the first time on the day of your session. Before the shoot move objects out of the way that may clutter up your background, and clean out paddocks that we may use. Make sure you prepare a large area if we are doing at liberty action shots.
